383: A WAR OF 1812 ERA EAGLE HEAD US OFFICER'S SWORD
The P-shape brass guard topped by an eagle head with feather detail over the wire-wrapped handle enclosed by a knuckleguard embossed with laurel is completed by the hilt with eagle head terminal over a rain guard cast with federal eagle and shield. The curved blade retaining most of its original bluing still presents all of its original gilt panoply of arms decoration. The original brass scabbard with engraved oak leaves and hanging ring is present.
Measures 28.25 x 5 inches.
Good original unpolished condition, especially the blade with its rare bluing and original gilt highlights, there is a portion missing form the ribbed handle, the leather washer is lost, the scabbard displays considerable dents and splits as shown.
