7: A 17TH C SOUTH INDIAN BOX WITH CARVED FIGURE OF BUDDHA

The rectangular form with relief carving of Buddha and other figures on the lid, figures in arches on all four sides, rope twist carved frame and trim, interesting hand cut strap hinges and lock, scroll cut feet laid flat under each corner.
Measures 3.5 x 9 x 4.5 inches.
Very good condition, noting splits, imperfections and the effects of age and use as expected. The interior walls are grooved in a way that suggests there were once interior compartments.
