The original oil on thin wood board panel, portrait of a young woman with lace collar wearing what appears to be a mourning pin, red drape on her right in the background, unsigned, no information found back side.

The sitter, Carrie Dearborn according to the family, was later in life principal at the Boston Baking School. Her most famous student and successor was Fannie Farmer, author and 'an American/Canadian culinary expert whose Boston Cooking-School Cook Book became a widely used culinary text.'

Measures 26.5 x 21 inches sight, 34 x 29 overall.
Very good condition, noting a few amateur touch-ups and surface rubs, no major damage, repair or loss.
