35: AN EARLY 19TH C. IRON PIPE TOMAHAWK WITH WIRE INLAY

The period wood handle (broken in two near the upper end) is decorated with punch decoration overall and inlaid with pewter, unidentified metal bands held by tacks and inlaid brass, the wood shaft holds a forged iron tomahawk pipe head that measures 6 15/16 inches long with a flared blade 2 3/8 inches wide on end of which both sides are embellished with curvilinear designs traced in tiny dots of inlay, the central circular band that accommodates the handle is formed with raised chevrons and vertical grooves that are stamped with circular punch decoration, the pipe bowl end is formed with three raised ribs embellished with dots of inlay.
Head measures 7 x 2.5, handle is 17.25 inches.
Good condition, clearly the haft is broken in two, peter inlays are missing, gold wire inlays are missing.
