250: A FINE, SCARCE GILBERT NO 16 FLOOR STANDING REGULATOR
The solid cherry case with pediment-form crown fronted by an Egyptian revival mask on tablet over a dentilated frieze above the front door flanked by side carvings and set with darker spandrels having incised lines either side of the arched opening conforming to the porcelain enamel dial with hand painted Roman numeral chapter ring enclosed by a nickeled bezel and fronting the eight day dead beat movement powered by a single nickel wrapped weight and compensating pendulum with three cut glass jars of mercury, the case back board with a darker rectangular panel having rounded corners, the paneled base with raised tablets of darker stained cherry, original scroll cut base.
Measures 102 x 33 x 13 inches.
Very good intact running condition at the time of inspection. We cannot guarantee the running or timekeeping condition of timepieces once removed from the auction premises. The sweep second hand is missing, the cherry facade around the dial is split in two in two places, the glass is all original as is all of the glazing holding the glass in place, the shiny dial is free from chips, cracks, scratches or restoration, the finish is very good noting scratches where the door has rubbed on top of the base section, the base has the typical dings and spotting from small dings, the top arch of the crown is missing a series of turned finials. A very nice, handsome example.
