406: A 1ST CENTURY B.C. ROMAN TERRA COTTA CAMPAGNA RELIEF

The fine and rare Roman Terracotta relief depicting a human face with elaborate spiraling headdress is of the type that decorated the facades of important homes and buildings throughout the Roman Empire. This fragment with pink to off white patina is estimated to be from the 1st century B.C.
The relief measures 5.5 x 6.5 inches without stand.
The condition is as shown, free from major damage or repair.
Provenance: The collection of artist Abe Rothstein, founder of Horizon Gallery, Rockport and Newton Center Massachusetts circa 1965-1980. The gallery offered fine art, mostly from local artists, but also material similar to that being offered here.
