The rectangular form with rounded corners is finely engraved, carved and crosshatched by hand, resulting in the striking rendition of an oft seen indigenous motif found in many forms over hundreds of years. According to the seller's notes, it was purchased, ...'from Leona Lattimer at the Vancouver Centennial Museum August 25, 1978...' by Tom Wiederholt while on an excursion with his good friend Ted Coe who later included this piece in his exhibition and publication Lost and Found Traditions: Native American Art, 1965-1985.
Measures 2.75 x 4.25 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or wear.
Provenance: The 40 year collection of Father Tom Wiederholt, Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was a close personal friend of scholar and curator Ralph 'Ted' Coe who advised Tom on most of his acquisitions.
