76: FERN COPPEDGE (1883 - 1951) OIL ON ARTIST'S BOARD

An oil on artist's board, signed F. Coppedge lower left and and titled 'Approaching Storm'. The work itself measures 8 x 10.5 inches, outside dimensions of the frame equal 15 x 17 inches. This work is displayed in an exceptional carved and gilded frame of the period Fern Isabel Coppedge lived in Kansas around 1910. Her biography says she was painting near Topeka, Kansas in the summer of 1915. Her biography is extensive and colorful. In addition to being a colorful character, she ranks as an important American female artist who studied with notable American impressionists and exhibited widely throughout the first half of the 20th century.
Excellent original condition. Light soiling, untouched and free from inpainting, touch-up, loss or repair visible under UV light. .
