BRONZE FIGURE OF A CENTAUR, CHIURAZZI NAPLES FOUNDRY

111: BRONZE FIGURE OF A CENTAUR, CHIURAZZI NAPLES FOUNDRY

A high quality casting after the antique, the figure wearing animal skins and leaning back slightly looking to one side with the arms clasped behind, soft and warm dark brown patina overall. Signed on the plinth with a circular foundry mark that reads Chiurazzi Naples in semi-circles centered by a mask. Measures 23 x 15.5 x 8.5 inches. Circa first half of the 20th century. This lot was originally offered without reserve in our July 8, 2016 auction. The buyer, a Manhattan auction house owner and television show furniture appraiser, never paid for his purchases. As a result, this property from the Joseph Candioto Trust is being offered again without reserve.
Very fine condition. There are no breaks or repairs, the finish is very good and even overall with the exception of one area of spotting on the plinth at the front corner of the figure's proper left. The figure shifts slightly on the base.
