114: A LARGE 19TH C. ITALIAN SCHOOL GOUACHE PAINTING

Italian School, circa mid 19th century, unsigned, gouache painting on paper mounted to stretched canvas. The size of the image equals 25 x 37 inches. This work represents one from a series of three similar paintings offered in this auction. See lots 112 and 114 for the other paintings in this series. Extensive pencil notations along the extreme lower edge of each painting refer to the life of Achilles. Each image is composed of a central color mural centering a gallery of three-dimensional figures from the story of Achilles surrounded by scenes of the warrior hero's life in bas-relief friezes above and below.
Very good condition noting very minor edge tears and tatters to the paper prior to mounting now secured to the canvas. There are no real issues of damage or repair, no losses, no in-painting, touch-up or stain.
