361: A FINE 1896 RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT AND CLOISONNE KOVSH

The fine, small Russian silver and cloisonné enamel Kovsh with gilding is fired in a wide range of jewel-tone enamels embellished in hand painted fine-line highlights. The base is stamped 84 for the standard of silver along with engraved name BIRD, family surname of partners in KC's most famous department store: Emery, Bird, Thayer, established around 1890.
Measures 1.25 x 3.25 x 2 inches. The weight is 61 grams, 1.96 ozt.
Very good condition, noting dulling of finish underside, tarnish to the interior, no damage, loss or repair. Engraved BIRD underside of the base.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
