5120: CUPID WITH DOLPHIN AFTER THE ANTIQUE FOUND IN POMPEII

Amore con Delfino (Circa 1900)
The early 20th century cast bronze group of Amore con Delfino, (Love with Dolphin), is after the antique original discovered in 1862 during the excavation of Pompeii's Thermae baths which date to the 2nd century BC.

The cast bronze dolphin over the putto's shoulder has broken loose from its original joints.
Measures 16 x 6.75 x 8 inches.

Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
