The whimsical study of a fantastic fish (with Laite-esque title) is painted in a very unusual medium for this artist. There are no other examples on record in this medium, or yet known through decades of experience with Laite's work. For instance, the 30-plus children's books he illustrated were all done in watercolor.

This work by by the fascinating and yet-to-be-discovered illustrator, costume designer and Kansas City Art Institute instructor Gordon Laite is signed lower left front with the date Jan. 17, 1960 in Roman numerals.
Panel size 17.5 x 14 25, frame measures 19.25 x 29.75 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
