VICTORIAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL BROOCH & EARRINGS IN 14K

5615: VICTORIAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL BROOCH & EARRINGS IN 14K

The rose gold brooch with hand engraved detail is accented with metalwork of contrasting color, black enamel details, and seed pearl accents centered by a large faceted amethyst stone - as with the two matching earrings now fitted with posts. The style of this circa 1880s set is a revival of stylistic influences that first appeared during the Renaissance period around the 15th century. The set tests for 14k gold.

TheMuseumofJewelry.com describes Renaissance period jewelry design as follows: The dominant style of Renaissance jewelry consists of a single massive, colored set of gemstones inlaid on an intricate gold setting....The focus of the jewelry was on the gold while the gem was considered an accessory to the precious metal which was extensively decorated.
Earrings measures 2 x 0.75 and brooch is 2.25 x 1.5 inches and weighs 11g.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear. The earrings would have originally been suspended from French wires.
