THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

114: THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975)
Spring Tryout (1943)
The lithograph published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 250 prints is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and listed as Fath catalog number 61. The impression is a nice, strong, dark example.

Benton's comments in Fath read: From a painting made in the middle forties. Represents an incident of my boyhood when another boy and myself took an old horse out one early spring day for a bareback ride. He got frisky and I slid off his tail.
Image measures 13.5 x 9.25, sheet is 16 x 12, and frame is 23 x 19 inches.
Very, very good condition, the full untrimmed sheet with two deckle edges, not laid down, no damage, punctures, tears or repairs; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts. There is a very minor shadow of pale toning from a previous mat that frames the image, visible only as pictured here outside the frame and mat.
