The quality, style, technique and signature here are all commensurate with that of an original work by the American illustrator Zoë Mozert, born Alice Adelaide Moser in 1907. An identical pastel signed Zoe Mozert sold by Heritage Auctions on April 15 of 2022 was catalogued with the title of Beauty by Night. A far more famous Mozert nude in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is also titled Beauty by Night. It appears this painting and the work previously sold at auction served as a study, preliminary, companion or concept presentation to one another. Unfortunately there is no chain of provenance for this painting that could provide answers. This lot is being offered as the work of the American illustrator Zoë Mozert, born Alice Adelaide Moser in 1907 and subject to the DTS Antiques LLC company return policy.

Good condition, noting very minor rubs to the surface, particularly upper right quadrant.
