65: A HANDSOME HIGH BACK SADDLE BY ASKEW OF KANSAS CITY
The high A-frame front with wide swell in front of the smooth tapered seat and high back is made from rich, dark mahogany leathers and bears the enamel tag of ASKEW back side of the cantle. The decoration is spare and refined, it includes fleur des lis at each back corner of the skirt and an interesting stamped feathering that encircles the base of the cantle's back side. The swell is tooled and each of the fenders, which suspend original iron oxbow stirrups, is engraved SS within a circle, possibly for Kansas City's Saddle and Sirloin club. The style of this saddle and the Askew company history place the date of manufacture between 1910 and 1928.
Measures 14.5 inches from the gullet to the stitching on the cantle.
Good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear, apparently the original sheepskin.
