CROWN OF THORNS AND OTHER FOLK ART FORMS IN SHADOW BOX

32: CROWN OF THORNS AND OTHER FOLK ART FORMS IN SHADOW BOX

The exceptionally unique folk art composition incorporates a crisply carved and complex interlocking peaked Crown of Thorns frame overlaying a 1930s to 1940s era print at the very top of the composition, over a hand painted cross in yellow against a painted blue sky with clouds and a hand painted portrait of Jesus, his right hand raised in a blessing gesture.

These works are showcased in an elaborate hardwood shadowbox constructed using two frames carved as ears of corn end-to-end in great detail - one on front, another on the back - some ears of corn carved with shocks, thousands of carved kernels in detail overall.

The oil painting is signed P.E. Bolstad, the signature of a known folk artist circa 1930s prior to the moniker outsider artist. This work is dated 2-40 below the signature.
Measures 25 x 14 x 5.5 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, chips, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
