110: DECORATED ROCKING BENCH AND RUSH SEAT CHAIRS CIRCA 1840

The rocking bench with elaborate stenciled decoration on the crest rail and painted decoration overall is fitted with a replacement gate. Benches of this form were for for domestic help to multitask, rocking the baby while leaving the hands free for other tasks and chores. In the antiques trade, these were traditionally referred to as a mammy bench. Height to seat is 14.5 inches.

An unrelated pair of thumb back chairs with paint decoration and woven rush seats are included. Height to seat is 17.5 inches.
Chairs measures 32.25 x 15.5 x 18 and the bench is 28.25 x 43 x 24 inches.
There are no issues of damage or repair. There is wear at some edges.
