93: A GOOD VINTAGE FOLK ART CARVED WOOD CANADA GOOSE DECOY

The nice example with well-formed proportions and glass eyes is found in its old, original paint.

Obviously geese spend the majority of their lives swimming, but among collectors, birds in this position are referred to as 'swimming Canada Goose.' That said, this example has a central hole in the base and a solid wood body which classifies it as more of a field decoy. Perhaps the carver's intent was to portray a feeding bird. The initials branded on the base are most likely those of the rig owner. Circa mid 20th century.
Measures 7 x 31.5 x 8.
Very good original condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
