360: A 19TH CENTURY FAN WITH HAND PAINTED IMAGE OF EUROPA

The pleated leaf is painted fully by hand with Classical figures depicting the story from Greek mythology of how Zeus abducted Europa, a Phoenician princess, by turning himself into a white bull. The back side is decorated with a hand painted vignette of landscape and mountains. The bone sticks are elaborately pierce-carved with a variety of figures and designs centered by the outline of a butterfly composed across a number of sticks.
Measures 10.75 x 18.25 inches.
Very good condition, noting wear to the hand painted image surface at the folds as shown.
