The 19th century American instrument of precision cutting retains its original paint and gold pin striping along with a stamped, oxidized and lacquered tag that reads L.W. Stockwell Ravenna Ohio. A man named Levi W. Stockwell was awarded a patent for an improvement in screw cutting machines as follows: LEVI W. STOCKWELL, OF RAVENNA, OHIO. IMPROVEMENT IN SCREW-CUTTING MACHINES. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,951, dated February 20, 1872. Specification describing certain Improvements in Bolt-Cutting Machines, invented by LEVI W. STocKWELL, of Ravenna, in the county of Portage and State of Ohio.
Measures 10 x 13.5 x 6.5 inches.
