The portrait of a young lady in red before a fantasy landscape and holding a book is signed Lucy Wells in black pigment lower right and titled by a brass plaque as well as by a paper label verso.

An artist trained at the Chicago Art Institute who lived in Seattle is commonly associated with the name Lucy Wells on similar paintings, though records also associate the name Lucy Heald with this same painter.

This oil on canvas is displayed in a very fine carved frame of the period, probably the original frame.
Canvas measures 24 x 22 with a framed size of 28.75 x 26.75 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
