12: DALE CHIHULY (B. 1941) RARE SILK SCARF WITH ACRYLIC

Dale Patrick Chihuly (Washington, Born 1941)

This very rare, actually a one-off, silk scarf was painted by Dale Chihuly for a fundraising event to benefit the Nerman Museum at Johnson County Community College. Mr. Chihuly was kind enough to execute one of his unique acrylic paintings on the scarf and, following the auction, the winner sent the piece back to Chihuly for his signature. The artist not only signed and returned the scarf but included the books shown here as well.

The original work of thick acrylic applications on a large silk square (scarf) is obviously signed lower left and displayed in a shadowbox frame with simple stitched tacks at each corner.

The following information on the Beyond Bounds annual fundraiser is from the college web site: Each Beyond Bounds event offers a challenge for artists and one-of-a-kind art purchases for patrons. There have been seven Beyond Bounds, for which more than 130 local, national, and international artists have transformed silk scarves, wooden boxes, wooden frames, shikishi (Japanese rice paper), vinyl LPs, 22-gauge sterling silver, and squares of 24-carat gold leaf into original works of art. The artwork is then sold at live and silent auction.
The silk measures approximately 26 inches square, the shadowbox frame measures 32.5 inches square.
Very fine condition. Clean and intact with original edges and ends, no damage, repair or stain.
