AN ANTIQUE MOGHAN CAUCASIAN LONG RUN CARPET CIRCA 1880

121: AN ANTIQUE MOGHAN CAUCASIAN LONG RUN CARPET CIRCA 1880

The polychrome field is arranged with two columns of rectangular reserves each enclosing a stepped and hooked star-filled medallion, all framed by a border enclosing continuous octagonal medallions with ivory spandrels each enclosing a hooked lozenge, reciprocal trefoil secondary guard stripes.
Measures 94 x 47 inches.
Nice intact original sides and ends. Very good condition noting low pile throughout the field, some colors to the knots, reweave on a worn fold on the border on one side. Similar area on the border on the opposite side. Visually good overall.
Provenance: Phil Martin Estate. Phil's interest in Persian and Caucasian weavings began in the 1980's when he met Michael Grogan, who was still with Sotheby's at the time.
