111: A PERSIAN SAROUK ROOM SIZE RUG WITH MEDALLION CIRCA 1900

The Persian room-sized carpet with rust red field and a central blue arabesque scroll medallion enclosing a cruciform pendant medallion linked to mirrored rhombus pendants supported by angular vines issuing palmettes, flower heads and beautifully variegated leaves, ivory spandrels with rust red enclosing arabesque scrolls and flowering vines, all within a blue border enclosing continuous palmettes alternating with flower heads linked by continuous vines ending in serrated leaves. This is a very nice example with warm rich palette and fine drawing incorporating beautifully variegated leaves and the central medallion of earlier examples. Retains a Skinner Auction lot tag.
Measures 139 x 107 inches.
Nice intact original sides and ends including original macrame at one end. Good overall even pile noting one end with slightly more wear noticeable only with close inspection. No damage, repair, mothing, stain or odor with the exception of a 2-inch diameter stain in two areas of the central ivory device.
Provenance: Phil Martin Estate. Phil's interest in Persian and Caucasian weavings began in the 1980's when he met Michael Grogan, who was still with Sotheby's at the time.
