NEIL BOYLE (1931-2006) OIL ON CANVAS

38: NEIL BOYLE (1931-2006) OIL ON CANVAS

Neil (James Neil) Boyle (Canada, 1931-2006)
(Late 20th Century)
The oil on canvas is signed lower right front and inscribed with the tongue-in-cheek designation of BSWCA which the artist adopted as his acronym for 'Big Shot West Coast Artist' later in his career when he had returned to teaching at the California Art Institute, and began painting Western subjects like this. Neil Boyle was a Canadian artist known for his work in illustration, fine art, and art instruction. He studied at the Vancouver School of Art and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He later taught at both of these. His career as a commercial illustrator began in the 1950s, working for major publications, advertising agencies and corporations including The Ford Motor Company and Reader's Digest. His success and recognition as an illustrator earned him a Life Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles. Turning to fine art, Neil Boyle chose scenes of the American West, like the one being offered here, for most of his subjects.
Canvas measures 12 x 9 with a framed size of 19.25 x 16.25 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
Provenance: Private Overland Park, Kansas Collection.
