87: AN EXCEPTIONAL ZIA POTTERY CANTEEN WITH DEER C. 1910

(Early 20th Century.)
The handsome example is painted in two halves divided by the red slip line that typically denotes pueblo pottery made before 1920. The front panel is decorated with sprigs of leafy foliates either side of an exuberant and well-executed whitetail deer painted by an obviously capable and insightful artist who observed details like the white of the tail in her painting.
Measures 7.5 x 12 x 10 inches.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of excessive or unexpected wear.
