Clayton Staples spent many summers teaching and painting in Gloucester. He is also credited with establishing the Fine Arts program at Wichita State University during his tenure there from 1930 to 1950.

This painting is one of the finest examples of painting by Clayton Staples to ever be offered at auction.
Canvas measures 25 x 25 with a framed size of 31 x 30.75 inches.
Very good condition, noting the discovery of a 2 x 3 inch area of inpainting lower right quadrant appearing under closer inspection with UV light. There are no other issues of scratches, craquelure, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up. Original stretchers, no relining.
