298: DALE NICHOLS (1904-1995) NOTEWORTHY OIL ON CANVAS
Dale William Nichols (1904-1995)
Untitled Winter Farmstead
The painting of a farmstead in winter is exceptional for its skillful and dramatic depiction of smooth, sunlit, luminescent contours of undisturbed snow, and the depiction of wind sculpted snow shelves.
It also features a figure navigating the deep snow between outbuildings that are flanked by thick stands of forage sorghum, another unusual feature in Nichols' paintings.
The artist's depiction of leafless pure black winter trees enclosed by grey halos, and a snow crust, is distinctive as well.
This exceptional example is signed lower right front.
