The Post War abstract expressionist composition is signed and dated lower right in black pigment and titled verso on the stretcher in graphite.

Most artists in America embraced abstraction after World War Two. Louis Schanker was on the early side abstraction in the US as a founding member of the American Abstract Artists group in 1936. He was involved with the WPA around that same time and later, as a teacher who emphasized abstraction and experimentation with his students, influencing a generation of painters.
Canvas size 29 x 36, frame measures 34 x 41 inches.
