87: A GERMAN BRONZE INSPECTOR OF PIONEER HONOR PLAQUE
The bronze plaque on oak back board is intaglio lettered in the casting 'As Recognition of the Inspector of Pioneers and Fortresses.'
In German military parlance, Pioneer battalions performed all of the engineer services that an army corps required to move, fight, and sustain itself on campaign.
Fortress literally translates to ''fixed place'' or ''strongholds'', which in World War II would have been towns and areas stocked with food and ammunition to withstand Allied offensives.
Measures 6.5 x 4.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
$300 - $400
