The view of a Maine landmark is signed lower left front in red pigment.
Ivan Summers was born in Illinois and studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts followed by summer studies in Woodstock, New York. In the 1920s, he taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Charleston Art School in South Carolina. In the 1930s he created etchings under the Works Progress Administration and later for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City.
This painting was created when he was again summering and painting in New England. The work is displayed in an American Impressionist frame with carved corners.
Board measures 14 x 18 with a framed size of 17.5 x 21.5 inches.
Very good condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up as confirmed under UV light inspection.
