Farm Houses in a Hilly Landscape (Second quarter of the 20th Century.)
The sunwashed view of a field of flowers and a farmstead below purple hills is signed lower right front. The light and atmosphere of this example stands out compared to the artist's more typical snowy landscapes.
Arthur Powell studied at the San Francisco School of Design, St. Louis School of Fine Art and Acadamie Julian, Paris.
He created murals for institutions such as the Methodist Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the Samuel and Nettie Bowne Hospital. He was affiliated with several art organizations including the Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, American Watercolor Society and the National Academy of Design of which he was a full member. Membership status was only bestowed after nomination by fellow artists and approval by vote of fellow distinguished artists.
Board measures 16 x 20, frame is 19.75H x 23.75W inches.
Very good condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
