104: GRACE CHINO (1929-1994) ACOMA POTTERY JAR 11 INCHES
Grace Chino (1929-1994)
(Third quarter of the 20th century.)
The thin-walled jar in three colors of slip applied with her typical technical precision and design sophistication is signed by Grace Chino on the convex base.
Grace Chino is daughter of Marie Z. Chino, one of the ''Four Matriarchs'' credited with reviving ancient Acoma pottery styles. Her sisters Carrie Chino Charlie, Rose Chino Garcia, and Vera Chino Elya were also accomplished potters. Grace's artistry earned her numerous awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market from 1980 through 1994. She was featured in significant exhibitions, including the Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery at the Maxwell Museum in 1974 and another at the Albuquerque Museum in 1979. Her works are held in the Brooklyn Museum.
Measures 8.5H x 11.5W x 11.5D inches.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear. There is one very small (3/16'' diameter) firing charactersitic in the form of a darkened area.
