Malkhaz Dekanoidze is a Georgian artist living in Wichita, Kansas. He is best known for his scenes of fantasy and surrealism. This painting projects a serenity that borders on the surreal. e realism of this composition is rendered with an almost unnatural serenity that feels somewhat surreal (note the word surreal was coined in 1917 to describe painting that went beyond realism).
Malkhaz trained at the State Art Academy of Tbilisi, where he earned a degree in Decorative Arts in 1978. From 1980 to 1987, he worked as an art director at Kartuli Pilmi, the national film studio, contributing set and production designs to numerous Georgian films.
In addition to his cinematic work, Malkhaz has pursued an international painting career, exhibiting in cities across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. His paintings are held in private collections worldwide, and he has completed large-scale public commissions in Georgia, including murals for the Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi.
His practice spans painting, stained glass, ceramics, metal engraving, and inlay work. A lifelong gardener, botanical motifs frequently appear in his compositions.
