William Wilson Bell was an interesting figure. He was a pioneer in outdoor advertising and founded a company related to both this and the open air theatre business in Pittsburg, Kansas where he owned and managed a chain of theatrical companies. He was founder and first president of the Theatrical Manager's Association, which he organized in Kansas City before locating in New York. He is credited with starting a novelty in the entertainment business during the 1890s, that of an airdome (a term he coined) or outdoor theater. He served as mayor of Pittsburg in the early 1900s and as a painter is said to have won numerous awards.
