Michael Stack is a self-taught American painter renowned for his luminous Southwestern landscapes.
Born in New York and raised in California, he relocated to Arizona in 1970 to work as a ranch caretaker. His works are characterized by layered oil techniques that capture the interplay of light, shadow, and color as exemplified in this example.
Stack's paintings have been featured in major Western art shows and are included in museums that include the permanent collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri.
