The cityscape watercolor is signed, titled and dated lower right.
Best known for his expressionist woodcuts in post WWI Europe, Fritz Richter also traveled and exhibited widely during the 1950s, including in the United States. This 1953 view of Wabash Avenue reflects his time in Chicago, likely connected to exhibitions in which Richter's work was shown alongside contemporary American artists.
Following WWII he exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Cincinnati Art Museum, Whitney Museum, Detroit Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago in 1957 and many others.
Sight size measures 17.5 x 21.5 with a framed size of 28H x 31.5W inches.
Apparently the condition is very good, very clean, intact, no visible stain, damage, repair, punctures or tears. This work has not been examined outside the frame.
Provenance: Longtime private collection, Southeast Kansas.
