211: LYMAN BYXBE (1886-1980) EARLY PENCIL SIGNED DRYPOINT
Lyman Byxbe (Colorado, 1886-1980)
Long's Peak - East Face (1939)
The etching is signed by Byxbe lower right and titled lower left. It is pictured in The Prints of Lyman Byxbe (1886-1980): A Catalog Raisonne by Robert L. Crump.
This fine and clean example has been archivally matted and framed in a sharp black molding.
Lyman Byxbe was an artist as well as something of an etching technician who, unlike most artists, prepared his own copper plates and printed much of his work himself. He was also something of a showman who welcomed visitors in his studio to witness the printing process and watch him inking plates and pulling prints. He was deeply invested in the technical side of etching and became well-known for careful line work and the tonal control of his aquatints.
Image measures 4.75 x 6 with a framed size of 13H x 13.5W inches.
