276: JOHN STEUART CURRY (1897-1946) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH
John Steuart Curry (1897-1946)
Manhunt (1934)
The lithograph, printed on BFK watermarked paper, is signed and dated by the artist in pencil lower right and titled lower left.
Notes regarding the edition appear in The Lithographs of John Steuart Curry: A Catalog Raisonne: ''Published by Contemporary Print Group, New York and distributed by Raymond and Raymond, Inc. in a portfolio entitled 'The American Scene, Series 2.' The suite included six lithographs by John Steuart Curry, Thomas Hart Benton, William Gropper, Russell Limbach, Charles Locke, and Raphael Soyer. While the portfolio was to be an edition of 300, impressions of Manhunt have appeared numbered over 50 in a hand other than the artist's. It is our belief that in all, probably fewer than 100 impressions were printed as the project was not successful.''
Image measures 9.75 x 12.75, sheet is 11.5 x 16 inches.
Very good condition, the full untrimmed sheet with deckle edges, not laid down, no damage, punctures, tears or repair. Very minor light toning from storage at the extreme edges with deckle, primarily at the right edge.
