AARON PYLE (1903-1972) TEMPERA ON ARTIST'S BOARD

64: AARON PYLE (1903-1972) TEMPERA ON ARTIST'S BOARD

Aaron Gunn Pyle (1903-1972)
The Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole Wyoming (Circa 1960.)
The scarce Western view is signed lower right, titled and signed again verso on the board. This painting was a gift from the artist to his neighbor, the current owner, in exchange for the use of a tractor. A second similar painting was offered as penance when Pyle rolled the tractor by accident.

Aaron Gunn Pyle described himself as a 'an artist who farms to improve his art' and as a realist. He shunned Modern Art as, 'nothing more than an escape from realities.' His mentor Thomas Hart Benton described him as, ' 'a true regionalist, perhaps closer to being a real one than any of the rest of us, for he lived continually with his subjects.'

Even though he once declined the opportunity to show his paintings because he had chores to do, Aaron Pyle still managed a number of exhibitions in New York at Associated American Artists, the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City and at the Josyln Museum in Omaha.
Board measures 9.25 x 11.5 with a framed size of 14.75 x 17 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
