A PERIOD AMERICAN HEPPLEWHITE KETTLE STAND OF RARE FORM

1: A PERIOD AMERICAN HEPPLEWHITE KETTLE STAND OF RARE FORM

A Period American Hepplewhite kettle stand with unusual semi-elliptical arching stretchers. The oval mahogany top with full gallery is banded in light colored veneers bordered by birch-colored line inlays and ebony-colored woods, the top is centered by a flame birch oval; a mahogany shelf slides outward from beneath the oval top between the two front legs, this slide with breadboard end is trimmed in ebony-colored woods; the square and very slightly tapered legs are decorated in ebony-colored and light-colored wood inlays, dramatic and graceful high arching stretchers join the legs. The overall measurements are 28 x 18 x 14 inches. Provenance: the collection of Grant 1237 of Providence Rhode Island, descended to his son Henry Clay 1237 (1918 - 2015), Mission Hills, Kansas.
Very fine condition. There are no breaks, repairs, areas of restoration or replacements. The top bears five very minor blemishes in the finish, there is a very minor separation in the rounded gallery just above one leg as shown. The finish is very good and is very old if not original, shining a hand held light reveals alligatoring in the old finish. Sturdy and free from breaks or repairs in the vulnerable delicate stretchers or any of their joints. Apparently the original hand cut brass pull on the slide. There are no areas of heavy wear, scratches, discoloration, or alteration.
