184: UNIFORM OF CPT MOSE 'MIKE' GROSS, PEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR

Captain Mose Gross, USNR, Pacific Theatre. Pearl Harbor survivor 'Mike' Gross was commissioned as an Ensign on 12 Dec 1940. He was assigned to light cruiser USS Helena as Assistant Navigator. When the Japanese attacked the ships at berth on 7 Dec 1941, his ship was hit by two torpedoes. The ship returned to the mainland for repairs, and he was assigned to the Caribbean where he headed up a gun crew on an Army ship, taking part in anti-submarine patrols. After earning many medals, he was retired on 1 Jan 1975.
