UNIFORM AND SERVICE DOCUMENTS FOR LT. MCFARLAND USNR LT. Harry W. McFarland, USNR, Atlantic/Pacific Theatres. Uniform consisting of Reefer Jacket with three place ribbon bar, pants, garrison cap; Framed Citation Navy Commendation Ribbon hand signed by Adm. Spruance; Separation Notice dated 22 Jan 1946; Certificate for operating Radar Equipment dated 9 Apr 1943; Appointment to rank of Ensign 5 Mar 1943; Certificate of Satisfactory Service 22 Jan 1946; two inch thick file folder containing wartime orders, etc.; Copies of Medical records. Navy Commendation Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Medal, Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze star, WWII Victory Medal. Harry McFarland enlisted in the USNR on 21 Aug 1942, and underwent 14 weeks training as a Midshipman. Upon completion on 17 Nov 1942 he entered active duty. On 5 Mar 1943 he was commissioned as an Ensign. Following brief training, he shipped off with Sub Chaser 737 for patrols in the Atlantic. He was transferred to the USS LCT 969 as Commanding Officer, with duties in the Pacific. On 1 May 1944 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. The Commander of the Fifth Fleet, Admiral R. A. Spruance, cited him for outstanding service during the assault and capture of Guam Island in July 1944. He was then transferred to the USS LST 1053 for continued duties in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged on 22 Jan 1946. He remained on inactive reserve status until 1950.

GROUPING FOR CPO MACHINIST DEES USNR PACIFIC THEATRE CPO Aviation Machinist Mate Charles W. Dees, USNR, Pacific Theatre, entered active duty on 22 June 1939 at age 17. The following year he achieved the rating of Fireman 3rd Class. 1941 promoted to Fireman 2nd Class. He underwent training as an Aviation Machinist Mate, and progressed through the ranks to achieve the highest enlisted rating prior to his discharge. He earned his first GCM in 1944, and went on to earn an additional three more.
