Christ and John the Baptist as Children with Angels (First quarter of the 19th century.)
A nice quality copy after the 15th century work by Rubens, so titled and identified by the recent brass plaque lower center of the antique frame with plaster decoration.
Canvas measures 37.5 x 49, frame is 47 x 56.5 inches.
Very good original condition. This work has not been lined, examination under UV light does not reveal any areas of inpaint, one surface rub lower right as shown with black tape reinforcement verso, original stretchers, keys etc.
Provenance: Gifted to St. Anne's Church, Wichita KS by the Frank Barton estate collection. Barton was co-founder of Rent-A-Center and an avid collector of Fine Art.
