A fine, highly detailed 19th century oil on canvas attributed to William Collingwood Smith (1815 - 1887) and titled 'A View of Scarborough From The Bay' circa 1840 verso by an art dealer's tag. The canvas measures 41.5 x 38 inches, the frame 39.5 x 55 inches. Smith produced 1000s of watercolors and drawings in his lifetime though oil paintings by the artist are rare and believed to be from his early period.

Provenance: acquired through Henry Ruth Fine Arts, Kansas City.
Very good condition. Only scattered minor bits of touch-up throughout the image visible under UV light, less than one percent.
