182: AN EMPIRE STYLE GILT BRONZE MOUNTED MAHOGANY SETTEE

Late 19th/Early 20th century, rectangular outscrolling crest rail centering a stylized florette roundel within berried laurel mounts, above a conforming padded back within frame continuing to straight padded arms ending in florette roundels, on gilt figural female sphinx supports and a padded seat, seat rail with similarly detailed bronzes, raised on monopodial animal leg supports with gilt winged lion's head capitals and terminating in paw-cast feet, upholstered in black damask with wide self welt. Measures 39 x 51 x 27 inches. This lot was originally offered without reserve in our July 8, 2016 auction. The buyer, a Manhattan auction house owner and television show furniture appraiser, never paid for his purchases. As a result, this property from the Joseph Candioto Trust is being offered again without reserve.
