George Caleb Bingham (1811-1879)
The County Election (1854)
The nice, strong impression of line and mezzotint engraving after the original painting by George Caleb Bingham is titled 'The County Election' and lettered 'Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1854 by in the clerk's office of the district court for the southern clerks office in the District Court for the Southern District of New York' immediately below the image. Further annotated PAINTED BY G.C. BINGHAM in type below the image on the right and ENGRAVED BY JOHN SARTAIN lower left corner.

This mezzotint was exhibited at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg through the Art in Embassies Program. It was selected by Ann Wagner, the American Ambassador to Luxembourg at that time, along with other important works depicting scenes and themes of importance to the state of Missouri and its history. Ms. Wagner was appointed ambassador in 2005 and now represents Missouri as Congresswoman.
Sight size measures 21.75 x 29.5 with a framed size of 35.5 x 43.25 inches.
Good condition, noting close margins, a small surface rub upper right quadrant, stain and surface irregularities throughout the margins.
