ROY LICHTENSTEIN (1923-1997) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

36: ROY LICHTENSTEIN (1923-1997) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997)
Foot and Hand (1964)
The offset lithograph in colors on white wove paper is signed by the artist in pencil upper left, inscribed number 282 from the edition of 300 prints, and dated 1964.

Foot and Hand is an important early example of what would become the artist's own style of thick outlines, bright, bold colors and deployment of Ben-Day dots on this scale. One could argue this image served as an early standard for the post-war Pop Art movement itself.
Sheet measures 17.25 x 21.5 inches.
Good condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no puncture, tears or repair. There is a solid band of light brown toning all the way around the image just outside the black outline that frames the image, there is a 1/2 inch brown stain extreme upper right edge of the sheet, there is a 1/4 inch diameter brown stain in that field of red Ben-Day dots upper center slightly right. The colors are very good and all other areas of the image are clean and as intended including the areas of clean, cream-colored areas of paper without ink of the boot and the yellow of the sleeve and all other areas are original and as intended with stain or toning.
